Scottsdale's position on the major highway defines the gateway to the beautiful north east of the state and has an ideal location in the heart of the Dorset Municipality, servicing a rural community in an area surrounded by farmlands and forest and beaches.

Scottsdale is situated in a lush green valley on volcanic red soil, with low mountain ranges to the south and west, and to the north and east, the blue sea. The view from the sideling lookout on the main highway out of Launceston, 16kms from Scottsdale is superb.

There are several large timber mills on the outskirts of town, food processing takes place in the Army Research Division which processes dehydrated food for the armed forces.

Vegatable and seed growing, mining, forestry, fishing, dairy and crop farming of poppies and lavender are some of the industries in the area.
